Christmas in July Blog Hop

I have a couple of projects I am working on, one of which is the Christmas quilt that Confessions of a Fabric Addict is sharing the tutorial to during her 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop. The tutorial is for a Trip Around the World quilt which she shares in steps through the blog hop.

I pulled out my really really old Christmas fabrics to use. I just need to use these up and it will more than likely be scrappy since I am cutting my strips 4" wide and not the 2.5" Sarah calls for in her tutorial. I wanted mine to be really big, like king size big. I am only cutting what the tutorial calls for at the moment. I am pretty sure I will need to cut and piece more strip sets, but I'll take care of it when I get to that point.

The other project that I've been working on is my scrappy half square triangles quilt. I didn't follow the Postcard From Sweden tutorial. I just wanted to make it scrappy. I thought I had enough cut and sewn to make a king size quilt but as you can see, I am a row short. I just need to complete these three rows then I can put the quilt top together. In the meantime I have to visit the quilt shop to pick up eight different colors of Kona cottons to finish up this quilt. BTW, those post it notes are my way of marking my rows. I have them numbered so I don't have to keep laying the rows out to check my placement.

Since I've been having issues with my back and only have been sewing for small amounts of time, I am finding that I am accomplishing more than when I used to sit down for long stretches of time to sew. I do wish this pain would go away permanently. Here's to sewing in spurts.

Four inch strips are going to make the Santa's Trip Around the World quilt a very nice size. I almost pulled my Christmas fabrics and joined in the QAL but I really need to stay focused on projects in the works. We are away most weekends until mid-September and this year is supposed to be about finishing my UFOs.

I really like the colors in your HST quilt.

Hope your back feels better soon.
