I laid some fabrics out to determine which is the best choice for the border of this ugly quilt. BTW...I call it the ugly quilt because it was a part of an ugly fabric swap I did a long time ago. I am thinking the print on the far left is it, plus there's enough to go around the quilt. The other two prints in the center will have to go on the back to be included in the pieced backing.

Every Summer Comic Con comes to San Diego and every year we go to check out what's going on downtown. There are quite a bit of interesting people walking around in costumes. The vendors and entertainment industries showcase upcoming games, movies, tv shows. The actors, writers and creative talents come together for various panels and interact with the audience. These are some pics I took that those who do not have a ticket can participate in.
The Nerd HQ has previews of games and other interactive activities like laser tags for people to do and a celebrity panel that benefits Operation Smiles.

Happy Monday! We've been spending time at the beach every week this Summer and it feels so nice to be outdoors. I love the ocean and watching my family play in the water. It never gets old. I have been really fortunate to win fabrics and sewing goodies from generous sponsors. This lovely fat quarter bundle is from Lima Sews. I won a $50 gift certificate and I chose Art Gallery Fabrics' Emmy Grace bundle by Bari J.

This is my 2nd finish for my 3rd Quarter FAL goal and also my ALYOF July goal. This kit was done by Avlyn Creations I think at least 10 years ago. I have had this quilt top pieced for quite some time.

I came across this Sew-Vivor competition a few days ago, I can't remember from where and have been thinking about it. I have finally decided to join in and see what happens. I love to challenge myself so this will help to push me out of my comfort zone and do something different.
This year the competition is quilt related and now that I have my longarm machine, it's going to be so fun to be able to finish my projects in a timely manner. No more UFOs for me. The entry says I can use any previous project so I am going to enter my Row By Row quilt that I just completed last week.
Hello Monday! I am on a roll! I am still practicing free-motion quilting and getting the hang of my quilting machine. I had some small pieces of batting left so I loaded up the small scrappy table runner and practiced doing feathers. I just sort of winged it. Overall I think it's ok accept for some tight spots.

I've never really plowed through to finish a project like this one before, but it does feel great to have this Row By Row quilt all done. It did take me longer than I planned to take photos. I just couldn't get the right lighting to get the quilting to show up on white fabric but I finally figured it out.
WARNING: This is photo heavy.
I am continuing with my free-motion quilting practice and with this quilt, it was the only way to go because of the 3-D pinwheel and the appliqués I had to work around. This dresden block was supposed to be a sunflower but I wanted to change it up and use different colors for the block.

The theme is Rush Hour and Studio E Fabrics is sponsoring the event. You'll need to use black, red, grey/white for your theme.

First up is my Sandbox quilt that was also this month's ALYOF goal. I would like to quilt and bind it.

It's time to set my finishing goal for ALYOF this month. Quite a few years ago I pieced this kid themed quilt top together and made kits for it. I then put it away and hadn't thought about it until I went through my UFOs over the weekend.
