Fresh Simply Retro

I am squeezing in some quilting time to join Jana in her last Simply Retro Quilt Along. This one is called Fresh. I pulled out my stash of fabrics from Sweetwater's three collections to use for this quilt. I used Hometown, Noteworthy and Sew Mama Sew. These collections blend together nicely.

I made these half square triangles an 1/8" larger so that I could trim it down to the right size. I have issues with sizing when I make half square triangles. Maybe it's the sewing machine ;-)
After all is trimmed and pressed, I laid them out to make sure I like the placement before I put the block together.

These are the lovely trimmings from the half square triangles.

I love how the block turned out. I am happy using different background fabrics. After all, I really need to use what I have in my stash. As I was working on this block, I was trying to decide on whether I should make one block and turn it into a table topper or make some more for a bed quilt. The final decision after I finished this one block was to make more for a bed quilt. I still have a lot of fabric left to make a large quilt.

Update: OOPS!!! I just noticed a mistake on the first row. I'll have to fix it right away.

I am so glad I found the mistake before I put the quilt together. PHEW!!!
Here it is all fixed. My first row was upside down so I had to flip it right side up.

I took these photos in my backyard just as the sun was getting brighter. That's all for today. Make sure to check out more Fresh quilts on Jana's blog.

I make my HSTs 1/8" bigger too for the exact same reason :) The block and your fabrics are just wonderful!

Your block looks great! My sewing machine has the same problem with HSTs! LOL

very cute block. I always oversize my HST's. That way I don't have to worry about perfection in either sewing or pressing.

I love your block, there are many times my husband notices my mistakes before I do, or I don't notice them until I take a photo! LOL

Love this! It is so cool how the image just seems to pop out at you. I have been looking into trying some more holographic type of quilt designs...Thanks for the inspiration!

Beautiful work and isn't it funny how mistakes will show up in photos! I like to trim my HSTs too. Thanks for sharing.
