Memory Lane Quilt Finish

I am so happy to finally finish the Memory Lane quilt. I have been practicing various free-motion quilting designs and settled on this particular one. Some call it clamshell, teardrop or a paisley pattern. I bought some variegated thread to use for the quilting. As I started to quilt and changing out 3 bobbins, I looked at how far I've gotten with the quilting and it wasn't very far. I started to think that I bit off more than I could chew, but I wasn't going to rip it out and start over so I pushed along.

WARNING!!! Lots and lots of photos to follow.

I spent nearly all of my time over the next 3 days sometimes into the wee morning hours to get the quilting done. I knew that if I didn't push myself it would not get done for a while. I am so glad it's done.

As I mentioned in my previous posts regarding this quilt. My girls and I started this as a block of the month when they were I believe 7 & 8 years old. We only did this for 4 months I think, so we ended up with 17 blocks all together. I was cleaning and organizing my UFOs and felt it was time to complete this quilt.

I put all of the blocks together, minus one, and worked on it until I got the top put together. I was not going to put a border on, but I was wanting it to be a bit larger so I added a small border.

As soon as the border was done I was on the hunt for the backing. Luckily one of the quilt shops nearby had a 50% off sale. Off I went to see what they have and I was in luck. Got what I needed for the backing. I brought the quilt top, batting and backing to my church during our children's activity night to use their tables and some wonderful guys including DH helped me pin all the layers together.

I am so happy to have this quilt done. It was one of those quilts that I want to remember and cherish because my girls and I did it together. I hope someday they will find a love of sewing and carry on with their own children.

Now that the quilt show is over. I just had to share some pics of Duchess. After I finished quilting the Memory Lane quilt. I laid it out nicely on my table while I decide on the binding. I got up in the morning to see her laying on it.

I couldn't help but pull my camera out. She was just too cute laying on it and moving around.

Have a wonderful day!
