Sunset

I don't have anything quilt related to share with you today. I am still trying to get some more of my Great Granny blocks done. In the meantime I thought I would share with you this beautiful sunset picture I took right in my front yard. I do see lots of pretty sunsets outside my door. It's amazing at times the colors that I see.

Dresden Bag

Remember this block I made for the Red White and Blue Blog Shop? I had a couple of options. Option 1 - make a small candle mat, perfect because of the circle in the center.
Option 2 - make a bag out of it. I went with Option 2 because I had enough fabrics leftover to make one.

Here's my finished Dresden Bag. I designed it to where it can be worn across the body or on your shoulder.
 Here's a close-up of the bag.

The backside.

Hope you like it. It was kind of different to watermark my pictures with my new blog name. I guess it will take some getting used to, but it's a great change!

A Simple Tote Bag

Here's my simple bag. I bought this fabric a long time ago to make myself an apron but never got around to it. I thought it would make a nice bag for my friend's roommate. Her name is Marty. She is an elderly lady and ended up in the rehab center due to her injuries. When I went to visit my friend a couple of weeks ago to give her a bag Marty mentioned that she wished she had a bag, any bag to put her belongings in when she can go home. I kept thinking about Marty so this week since my friend is well enough to go home I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to visit her one last time at the rehab center and give Marty this bag.
Last night, I was figuring out the bag and measurements to cut. I wanted it big but not so big that she couldn't use it everyday if she chose. When I finished the bag, it came out taller than I had planned. This is what happens when I figure out things in my head and put it on paper. I never know how it's really going to turn out until I am done. Since it's taller than I had planned I make a large flower to accent the front of the bag.

I don't know if Marty will use this bag after she gets home but I added a zippered pocket and two good size pockets on the inside to hold cell phones or other belongings secure.

I had some large leftover pieces so I whipped up a zipper pouch to go with the bag for Marty to take home any toiletries she may have. It's not a huge pouch but it'll hold little things and keep them organized.

I still have a bit more of the gum ball looking fabrics left. I'll have to figure something else to do with it so all the scraps will be used up. I think my simple tote bag is now a bit on the complicated side with the addition of the zippered pocket. I couldn't help myself :-D

Great Granny Block

I went in and fixed my great granny block. I don't know how I couldn't have seen the mistake when I was sewing it together.

Here's my OOPS moment. I didn't even realize I made a mistake until I had it all trimmed and taken a photo. See the blue and the green square at the bottom left corner? I had to carefully take out the stitches for just those two squares and place them in the correct order.

Alrighty, I really have to get some work done ;-) I need to make a simple bag for a gift.

Great Granny Along Quilt Blocks

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend. I took our girls on a bit of a cupcake outing. That's a whole other story, but I did finish some more great granny blocks. I started out with 3 blocks until I went in to start placing my watermark and noticed one of them was not quite right so now I have only 2 to show you. I have to fix the third one.

I am loving this color combo. The colors in the Rooftop Garden jellyroll is a bit on the bright side for me but it is really growing on me. Love it!!!

That's all for now. I'll be back another day to show you the third one that I made a mistake on. I am not looking forward to using that seam ripper :-(

A reminder, today is the last day for the Red, White & Blue blog hop. Click here for some wonderful inspirations.

Red White and Blue Blog Hop

Have you all been checking out the blog hop? The blocks I've seen are amazing! Today is my day to share with you my red, white and blue block. I love the dresden plate block but don't really get around to making it so this was the perfect opportunity to make one. I haven't decided if I would like to turn it into a small quilt or make something I can use often. I really liked how this turned out. I stitched everything down by machine so it made the process go quite fast. My block turned out to be 10 1/2".

I had quite a bit of small pieces leftover from cutting the dresden plate so I made another block. This block is for Lori and Jodi's great granny along. You can find the tutorial here.

I also made a zippered pouch. I am really trying to use up small pieces as I go so I don't end up with a ton of scraps laying around. I came up with this pattern based on the sizes of the scraps I had leftover.

BTW...I didn't have much red, white and blue fabrics in my stash so I had to run out and buy some. These fabrics are by Denyse Schmidt. I love these prints. They are so pretty.

I'd like to thank Diane of Jane's Fabrics and Madame Samm for putting this blog hop together.
Be sure to check out all the ladies on today's blog hop for more red/white/blue inspirations.

Great Granny Along Block

I had some time to sit down and sew my Great Granny block. I couldn't decide on which fabrics I would like to use so I made two blocks. Wouldn't you know it, I like both of them.

On this block I used Moda's Rooftop Garden jellyroll strips. I love the bold and bright colors in this block.

On my second block I used fabrics from Michael Miller's It's a Girl Thing collection. This is going to be perfect for a little girl.

I can't wait to make some more. The pink Great Granny blocks are all going to be the same I think. The Rooftop Garden one is definitely going to be different since I will be using a jellyroll for the blocks.
At first I was kind of lost when it came to squaring up my block since I haven't used my square up ruler for years. Once I figured it out, it was a breeze. So glad I can finally put the ruler to good use.

Great Granny Sew Along

I am joining the Great Granny Quilt Along over at Lori's blog. I have been doing some quilting lately and this one seems like so much fun I couldn't pass up. Lori and Jodi are hosting this quilt along so if you would like to join, there's still time.

WIP

It's been a bit difficult trying to get this quilt done. I had to take a little break to squeeze in time to help hubby among other projects. I got a lot of sewing done for the blocks. Now all I need to do is sew the blocks together. I don't think I am going to put a border on this quilt. Hopefully I'll be able to get the whole quilt done soon.

I didn't get to take all the pictures of hubby's project, but here are some. This is the mess we created by making the patterns for the cushions and cutting out the fabrics.

These are some of the small cushions I needed to recover. The fabrics are really old and these cushions were the only thing that still looks decent.

Here are a couple of the big seats we finished. The fabrics are much prettier than the original.

I am a little late in putting this up due to my crazy schedule for the last few days. Check out all the blogs below for some awesome projects. I was only able to check out a handful of blogs from July 1st and the blocks are all beautiful. Have fun and check out each day's posts. You won't be disappointed. I will share mine on July 12th.
