Sewing Party Final Update

Our 13 yr. old asked if we could sit around the coffe table and have dinner. She also requested her favorite, my twist on Shrimp Scampi. It's more like Shrimp in Cream Sauce with a twist of lime. She also asked if we could watch Unnatural History at the same time. That's what we did. I made shrimp with pasta and vegetables for me since I really need to stay away from the fattening stuff. I threw these two dishes together so there's no recipe. I love to come up with recipes with what I have at home. After dinner she also asked for rootbeer float. Gotta stay far away from that one for sure.

I worked on the binding as we watched TV together.

Here's the close up of the quilting.
Later I am going to check out everyone finishes. It's so much fun to see all the beautiful projects.

Sewing Party Update #4

I've never done custom quilting before but with this quilt, the white space just needed something extra. I freehanded (is that even a word??) the flower and did some crosshatching on the prints. I am so glad this is a table topper because if it was big I don't think I could get the quilting done in one day.

Sewing Party Update #3

Here's my top all ready for some machine quilting.

Sewing Party Update #2

Here are the blocks all done and pressed. Had to lay them out to make sure they are going in the direction I want them to go before I sew it together. Nothing like sewing it on wrong and having to rip the stitches out.

Here's my snack of choice these days. Good old yogurt. I've been doing pretty good staying away from junk food so can't spoil it now.

Sewing Party Update 1

Sewing the pieces together to create the bow tie block. Almost halfway done with the blocks. I am off to enjoy some relaxation with my family, be back later for some more sewing.

Here's me sewing some leftover triangles to keep for a project at another time.

Sewing Party

The Charming Girls are having a Christmas In August Sewing Party!!! So much fun! I am making a table topper/wallhanging. I have a bunch of scraps from Thimbleberries' Lazy Crazy Quilt line. It's a few years old, but it will work for my pattern. I played around with the bow tie block in EQ and I liked how it turned out so I am going to go ahead with it. As for who this will go to, I haven't decided yet. I'll see as we get closer to the holidays.

My Hexagons

This is what I have been working on, 9 hexagon flowers. I have had these pink 30's fabric scraps for so long I need to just use it up so I made them all the same. I haven't hand sewn anything besides bindings for a few years and I see why. I practically have holes in my middle finger where I used to push the needle through. I know what might be thinking. Why not use a thimble? Thimbles and I don't agree :) or maybe I just haven't found the right one. These will be turned into a runner and a small hot pad or something small.

Rail Fence

I had a bunch of fabrics leftover from some clothing I had sewn.  I didn't want the little bit of fabrics to go to waste so I put together this rail fence quilt. This is quick and easy to make. I didn't have enough fabric left for the binding so I went and bought just enough to bind the quilt. This quilt will go to Quilts For Kids. Pardon the wrinkles, it's been folded up for a while until I can take a picture of it.

Finally

Remember this quilt I posted a while ago that I only have the top done? I did not get it quilted and bound until now. I have been so busy through the holidays, then fundraising in between and sewing machines not behaving that it was hectic and frustrating to say the least. I am so glad it's done and ready to mail out to Quilts For Kids. I have never machine sewn my borders on. This is a first for me. I figured with all the wear and tear, I had better just machine sew the binding on. It wasn't as hard as I thought. It went pretty well.
The voting for Pets On Quilts Show ends tomorrow. Make sure you go and vote (for me : D ) you can win some awesome quilting prizes.
The weekend is here. Have a great one!

Decoy Quilt

Here's my Schnibbles Decoy quilt I finally finished and bound. If my sewing machines were behaving, I would have gotten it done sooner since the quilt is so small. I guess there's a reason for me to finish it when I did because it is now in Germany to be given to some very special people. I didnt' have much time to take a good picture since we were in a hurry to pack the quilt up so please pardon the yellowish pictures, but I wanted a picture of the quilt before it's gone.

Pets On Quilts Show

SewCalGal is having a Pets on Quilts Show and I am entering one of our cats. This is Molly. We adopted her at an animal shelter in Hawaii. She was only 11 months old at the time. We were sitting around looking at the cats and she just jumped on our lap. We knew she was it. She is so lovable and super friendly to all that enter our home. Molly is now almost 15 years old. She loves to sleep on the quilts we have on our bed. The quilt Molly is laying on is called maple leaf Winter Lily from Thimbleberries.
Update: I did manage to get new pics of Molly so you can see the quilt better.

Oh No....

I've gone and done it. I am sewing hexagons. The last time that I had hand sewn anything was an applique quilt that I gave away as a gift and that was many years ago. I have to admit, it is very therapeutic to sit and sew these hexagons. I blame it on all those small scraps that keeps invading my life :-) There you have it, now I need to make some more so it can become a decent size quilt.

Pouch

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Ours was super busy, but fun. A friend of ours daughter's birthday is today. She's leaving on a trip and needed a pouch to wear around her neck so I whipped this up really quick as a gift for her. It's a zip pouch so she can keep her little things secure while traveling.

BTW...It seems I blinked and I've reached 100 followers and 20,000 visitors all within a couple days of each other. I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to do much. Stay tuned, I will do something to celebrate this milestone. Thank you all for coming by and visiting. Your comments make me smile :)

CGQC July/August Finishes

Here are my finishes for the CGQC July/August Goals. The only thing that won't count are the two handbags I did finish but can't show you the whole thing because I can't decide if I am going to publish the pattern or do something else with it. Here's what I finished:

1. Schnibbles Decoy quilt
2. Finished 3 bags
3. Tablerunner from Leftover blocks
4. Between Charming Friends quilt

I am still working on my selfcare goal.

Dutch Windmill

I bought a ton of this little floral print fabric a long time ago to do a project and had a ton left over. Way back when I was not very good at calculating yardage so that's how it happened. Since I needed to use it up, I made this Dutch Windmill quilt with it. It's a nice lap size quilt. That's all for today. A short quick post. Have a wonderful day!
